OVER 25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN

Therapy Services

Thank you so much for your interest in my practice. I am honored to be working as a psychologist, and supporting a mission I so profoundly believe in. Perhaps one of the most important lessons I’ve learned as a professional is that far too many of the strategies we use for helping others simply don’t address the whole person – mind, body and spirit. I am committed to working with clients by viewing people in a holistic and integrative way. Once again, thank you for your interest. Please feel free to email me. I would love to share with you a memorable therapeutic experience that will take you to a whole new level.

The primary modes of therapy I offer include individual and couples therapy and coaching, and different circumstances may call for different modes. For example, while a person’s main mode of therapy may be individual, family therapy may prove beneficial during a separation or divorce. A teen or tween experiencing mental health concerns may benefit from having family members join a session or a few sessions in order to discuss areas of concern that may be hindering recovery or to discuss progress or setbacks. My area of specialization is in understanding girls and women’s psychological health.

Individual therapy

Individual therapy is a collaborative process that offers a confidential and supportive environment for personal exploration and growth. It helps adults navigate various life challenges, develop resilience, and make meaningful changes to enhance their overall quality of life.

Teens

The teenage years are a crucial period of self-discovery and identity formation. Teens are navigating through a variety of challenges, including emotional fluctuations, social pressures, and academic demands, all while trying to figure out who they are and what they stand for. Overall, therapy helps teens navigate the complexities of adolescence while providing parents with insights and strategies to support their child’s growth in a positive and constructive way.

Young adults & Adults

With individual adults, working with me can help to identify ways that patterns get in the way of connecting with others in their important relationships, including with themselves. I offer pragmatic discussion about ways to maximize self-care, address troublesome symptoms (such as anxiety and depression, trauma, and anger), reduce creative blocks and work performance issues, and change course in the face of loss or impasse.

Here's how individual therapy can address the needs you mentioned:

Through therapy, individuals can gain insights into recurring patterns in their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Recognizing these patterns can lead to a deeper understanding of how they impact relationships and self-perception.

Therapy provides a safe space to explore difficulties in forming and maintaining relationships. It helps individuals recognize and address communication barriers, attachment styles, and other factors that might hinder their ability to connect with others.

Individual therapy encourages self-exploration and self-awareness. Clients can delve into their beliefs, values, strengths, and areas for growth, leading to a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Therapists often collaborate with clients to develop effective self-care strategies. This might involve managing stress, setting healthy boundaries, practicing mindfulness, and promoting overall well-being.

Therapy is a proven approach for managing symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, and other mental health challenges. Therapists use evidence-based techniques to help clients cope with these symptoms and develop healthy ways of managing them.

Therapy can help individuals overcome creative blocks and performance issues by identifying underlying psychological barriers. It fosters a mindset conducive to innovation and improved work performance.

Life is filled with transitions, losses, and moments of feeling stuck. Therapy offers support during these challenging times, helping individuals process grief, navigate changes, and find new directions when they feel stuck.

Therapists collaborate with clients to set realistic and meaningful goals for personal and professional growth. These goals serve as a roadmap for progress and positive change.

Therapy equips individuals with resilience-building tools, enabling them to adapt to challenges and setbacks with greater emotional strength.

Therapy empowers individuals to make positive changes in their lives. By exploring thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, clients can make informed decisions to alter their life course in alignment with their values and goals.

Individual therapy considers the person as a whole, addressing mental, emotional, and sometimes physical well-being. This comprehensive approach ensures that clients receive support tailored to their unique needs.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy can be a transformative and illuminating process for partners seeking to improve their relationship. It provides a structured and guided process for partners to deepen their understanding of each other, resolve conflicts, and develop healthier ways of relating. It can facilitate personal growth within the context of the relationship and help couples build a stronger, more fulfilling connection.

Here's how COUPLES therapy can address the DYNAMICS you mentioned:

Couples therapy offers a safe space for partners to explore and understand the patterns and dynamics that have emerged from their individual backgrounds. This includes examining how their family of origin and past relationship experiences might be influencing their current interactions.

Couples often bring a history of interactions and conflicts into their current relationship. Therapy helps partners unpack these histories, enabling them to identify triggers, misunderstandings, and unresolved issues that may be impacting their relationship.

Couples therapy encourages partners to engage in self-exploration while considering their role within the relationship. This introspection helps individuals understand their needs, expectations, and vulnerabilities and how these elements influence their interactions.

Effective communication is at the core of a healthy relationship. Couples therapy provides tools for improving communication, including active listening, assertive expression, and conflict-resolution techniques.

Relationships naturally have emotional ebbs and flows. Therapy equips partners with strategies to navigate these emotional fluctuations, fostering empathy and understanding even during challenging times.

Couples therapy often delves into the attachment styles of both partners. Understanding attachment patterns can help partners comprehend how they respond to intimacy, distance, and emotional connection.

Conflict is inevitable in any relationship. Couples therapy teaches couples how to engage in productive and respectful conflict resolution, preventing negative patterns from intensifying conflicts.

For couples dealing with breaches of trust, therapy offers a structured environment to rebuild trust and work towards forgiveness and healing.

Therapists guide couples in rekindling and maintaining intimacy, helping them connect emotionally, physically, and intellectually.

Couples therapy encourages partners to identify shared goals, values, and aspirations. This can help align their future visions and build a stronger foundation for the relationship.

Unresolved resentments can erode a relationship over time. Therapy helps partners address underlying resentments and facilitates forgiveness and moving forward.

Couples therapy assists partners in developing effective problem-solving skills as a team. This collaborative approach encourages joint decision-making and solutions.

Life’s external stressors can strain a relationship. Couples therapy equips partners with strategies to navigate external pressures, such as work-related stress or financial challenges.

Couples therapy fosters an environment of ongoing growth and development. Partners learn skills that can be applied beyond therapy sessions to ensure the longevity and health of their relationship.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used and evidence-based therapeutic approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It’s designed to help individuals understand and change negative patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to emotional distress and mental health issues. CBT is typically a short-term and goal-oriented therapy that empowers individuals to develop practical skills for managing their thoughts and emotions more effectively.

The core principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy include:

CBT emphasizes identifying and challenging distorted or negative thought patterns, known as cognitive distortions. These distortions can contribute to anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties. Through cognitive restructuring, individuals learn to replace these negative thoughts with more balanced and realistic ones.

This aspect of CBT involves engaging in activities and behaviors that bring a sense of pleasure, accomplishment, and satisfaction. It’s particularly effective for combating depression and low motivation by encouraging individuals to re-engage with their interests and routines.

CBT equips individuals with a range of coping skills, relaxation techniques, and problem-solving strategies. These skills empower individuals to effectively manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges.

CBT often involves assignments that individuals complete between therapy sessions. These assignments reinforce the skills learned in therapy and encourage individuals to apply them to real-life situations.

CBT is typically goal-oriented, focusing on specific targets for improvement. Clients and therapists collaboratively set achievable goals to work towards during the course of therapy.

Clients are encouraged to track their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors as part of the therapy process. This helps individuals identify patterns and triggers, making it easier to implement effective strategies.

CBT emphasizes the individual’s active role in their own healing process. Clients learn that they can change their thoughts and behaviors, which leads to improved emotional well-being.

CBT has been widely studied and has shown effectiveness in treating a variety of mental health conditions, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder)

Its structured and practical nature makes it appealing for many individuals seeking concrete strategies to manage their mental health challenges.
